Blackened Toast 10 out of 10, would Opeth again.

Arrogant Bastard I feel I reference Opeth far too often, but the parallels here are undeniable -- they even hail from the same town! Descend hits you with everything a progressive death metal act can: ever-evolving song structures; choppy progressive rhythmics; heterogeneous riffs and bright leads; harsh and clean singing occasionally augmented with shimmering female vocals; and ethereal acoustic passages that leap right back into the death metal fray. Favorite track: Blood Moon.

bcb723 Umm... yeah. Not really sure what I expected initially but this album sounds AMAZING. The production is top notch - this should be experienced through headphones for the full effect. The songs are in the progressive metal vein but really stretch beyond that limited description. I won't use the "O" word in terms of comparison or influence basically because these songs, especially the epic last three tracks, show that Descend can stand on their own merits. Surprisingly excellent. Favorite track: The Deviant.

Descend is a progressive death metal act from Stockholm, Sweden. The band has completed the recording of their third full length album, entitled "The Deviant". The album was released on June 26 2020, via Aftermath Music.

BIOGRAPHY:

Throughout the years, Descend has played numerous shows both in Sweden and abroad, including festivals such as Metal Town, Gotheburg and Spread The Metal Festival, Halifax, alongside acts such as Morbid Angel, Opeth, Kataklysm.

Originally, Descend was founded in 2003 by guitarist Andreas Lindström and started out as a thrash metal band. As the years passed, the line-up changed and with it, also the music. In 2008 Alexander Wijkman (guitar) and Nima Farhadian (vocals) joined. Descend was now a five piece [with the names mentioned plus drummer Jonathan Persson and bassist Justin Biggs]. With this line up the band recorded an EP (The Reckoning, '09). This resulted in a record deal with Supernova Records through which they released their first full length album 'Through the Eyes of the Burdened' (2011).

In 2012, Descend entered the studio again and recorded Wither which was released January 2014 through Inverse Records. Wither brough great reviews and a lot of attention to the band. German Legacy Magazine rated it 15/15 and according to NoCleanSinging "their [Descend's] new record Wither kicks a fuck ton of ass."

Since 2017, Raul Vicente (bass) and Emil Nissilä (drums) have joined the band and Descend's lineup is again complete.
